Watch out fror the White Guy
I came across this poster in the subway station warning commuters to be careful when withdrawing money from ATMs as they may be followed by suspicious characters who will steal their money and information. It shows two men conniving about the commission of the crime.
Nothing really noteworthy there, until I noticed how the poster depicted the criminals: white and blonde. I can’t really make out the guy with the hood and shades, as his face is well covered (good criminal that he is), but his partner was clearly western and blonde. Interesting!
Just made me wonder if this is how Fukuoka sees criminals in this town. I don’t have that much western friends in Fukuoka so now I don’t know if that is a good thing or a bad thing. If you are white and blonde though, I’d suggest not hanging out near ATM machines, less be accused of a crime!
Stranger of Mine (Unmei Jannai Hito / 運命じゃない人)
Unmei Janai Hito(運命じゃない人), which literally means “a person who is not your destiny” is a light and touching film written and directed by director Kenji Uchida. It’s english title is “Stranger of Mine”. I saw it in a Japanese Film Festival and immediately became a fan of Mr. Uchida. It isn’t a very famous movie in Japan where it was released in 2005. In fact I haven’t met a Japanese that has seen it, which is unfortunate because it is such a solid film. Read more…
